Moving out, moving on

I moved out of the apartment and was shocked to see how much extra stuff I had accumulated after only a few months. Okay, the plastic bags and cardboard boxes have leftover food items in them that I passed on to the marvelous V.
This is my new temporary home in Zagreb, the Palace Hotel. Built in 1907 it is gloriously Art Nouveau (I will take some interior shots tomorrow, so check back). Rebecca West stayed here in the 1930s when she was travelling around (then) Yugoslavia and eventually wrote her famous BIG book, Black Lamb and Grey Falcon.
This is the view from our bedroom window. Quite different from the view of Novi Zagreb! But actually it's the same view, just closer into the centre of town.

Across the street is a statue of Bishop Strossmeyer, one of Croatia's cultural heroes. He was instrumental in founding Zagreb University and worked to unite Orthodox and Catholic churches. He was also the leader of the People's Party and advocated for the use of Croatian language in government and church. He is much revered.

It was a grey day yesterday, but then Arlequino arrived (yay!) and today the sun shone.
